NATIONAL STREET ROD ASSOCIATION – BUILDING A CLUB FOR THE FUTURE
The NSRA always put on a vibrant display at the NEC Classic Motor Show, and this year will be no exception! With six top show-winning cars from the 2018 event season, the NSRA’s stand will be a celebration of the UK’s Rod and Custom scene.
Visitors will be able to see Garry Marshall’s 1940 Chevy Pick-Up, Mark Holmes’ 1947 Ford Super Deluxe, a 1953 Ford Popular owned by Jim Roberts, a 1932 Ford Roadster owned by Paul Henwood and finally the infamous Model T Ford, ‘Nykilodeon’ owned by Barry Tickle.
Hot Rodding by its very nature is a method of preservation and several of these outstanding cars have been on the road for many years, including ‘Nykilodeon’. Which goes to show that Hot Rods aren’t just cars with a limited life span – a passion for customisation extends a vehicles life, just as an avid restorer also would.
The ‘Nykilodeon’ T Bucket was originally built in 1972 – the NSRA’s inaugural year! Built by one of the UK’s most renowned builders, Nick Butler, this Hot Rod has been wowing enthusiasts and drawing crowds ever since. Many of these original early 70’s Hot Rods have inspired generations of car builders and are still capturing the minds of youngsters even now.
This year’s show theme is ‘Built to Last’ and the NSRA, after 46 years of going strong, are building a club of for the future.
As winners of the FBHVC’s ‘Outstanding Club Initiative to encourage the Next Generation’ award 2018, the NSRA are excited to be representing the next generation of Hot Rodders with their sixth and final car. For the first time, junior NSRA member Kodi White, will be exhibiting his ‘Coopers Pick-Up’ Tot Rod. This child size Hot Rod was home built by a father and son team and is often seen driving around at NSRA shows.
The NSRA hope that the cars on display this year will have a lasting impact on visitors and inspire the next generation. If you would like to see ideas on how to get younger members involved in custom and classic motoring, make sure that you visit the NSRA stand in Hall 5-772.
