Billing Fun Run
June 3rd – 5th 2005
Who would believe it; 33
years at Billing and still going strong.
Just in case you’ve
missed out on the last 32 years the Fun Run is held at Billing
Aquadrome, Great Billing,
Northampton
(just off the A45).
The weekend will follow
the usual format as we think after 32 years we’ve got it about
right.
Friday night disco, Tot
Rod racing at the on-site Go Kart track Saturday morning, mega
cruise Saturday lunchtime, Saturday night disco with live music
with Sunday seeing the familiar show & shine in the
traditional Billing sunshine with separate show area for the Pop
Festival, Under 25’s and Tot Rods. And don’t forget John
Price who will be there as usual for the whole weekend.
There is no pre-booking
for this event just turn up on the day and pay Billing your
camping fees (NSRA members with a valid 2005 membership card
will benefit from discounted camping fees). Once settled come
and register for the NSRA’s weekend of fun; NSRA members FREE
+ one guest at £6. Non NSRA members and additional member’s
guests £12. Sunday only £6 per car.
So, will there be
anything special at Billing this year?
What about a Street
Driven Roadster which has went 201.821mph at Bonneville last
August?
Yes, the Thacker &
Shine Roadster will be displayed on the Duksville
Speed Shop’s stand at Billing.

Sadly Jimmy Shine is too
busy to attend but Tony Thacker will be there:
“With the help of
California Shipping and Kinstown Shipping, we’re bringing the
Roadster to
England
this summer” said owner Tony Thacker.
“Paul at Duksville
Speed Shop and Comet Clothing will be handling the
UK
logistics and our plan is to have the car there in time for
Billing before taking it up to The Dove Company in
Norfolk
. There, McLaren F1 designer Peter Stevens will do some
preliminary aero work prior to putting it in the MIRA wind
tunnel”.
“Nobody has ever put a
hot rod in a wind tunnel” continued Thacker, “and we want to
see how much we can improve the aerodynamics within the rules.
Our plan is then to return to the States, install a new motor,
go back to Bonneville in October and try to get a record at over
200mph. HOT ROD magazine as well as HOT ROD TV and even Custom
Car will cover the project.
Bonneville racing is
never easy so everything we can learn will help” concluded
Thacker.
