I thought I'd start a new thread for these after a question Chris asked me about the year the pics of the Willys pop were taken . These are a few more pictures from the one and only Pop Festival held at Long Marston Raceway back in 1986 .

Fourth pic down, the dark blue Pop to the right, WFK773 was the ex Graham Young two tone blue car. I remember seeing it with a new owner at an early Hot rod Drags in that colour, I hadn't noticed that it had lost ots bumpers by then too.
The Pop coupe on the left was Andy Gisbee's.
How timeless does MR Torquer look in that second pic?

The blue Pop WFK773 belonged to my dad from 1984 till he died e few years ago. He got back into fartball and the car got neglected and deteriorated rather badly, the shell now belongs to my 18 year old cousin Gregg Kerr who is building it Pro street style. Mark Flavell (co owner of pop dragin' in page one) is currently doing the chassis and cage and he has my old 11 second rover lump to go in it so its in good hands. I have a much better shell to rebuild it in the style of that pop coupe above funnily enough!
The yellow pop is Paul cuthberts and is now in the care of Pete Nee in exactly the same guise as the picture. It runs a hot small chevy and manual box, Pete is a bit of an engine builder to the local scene.

I was going to ask the same question....

The front axle/rear wings look suspiciously Grumpy, but when I was playing with it it had the big scoop, and 'normal' flip front...

But that was '91....

Yeah I've got that Hot car with the feature in and have also seen it in the new hot rod showcase. Ian I saw your car parked up with Dave Harries black one at Avon park a couple of years ago and thought my Dads woulda looked right parked with 'em, same style and era. Seems a shame to update it when these two look so damn good!

Phil, that's a really early pic of Graham's Pop, glass front, side pipes, no bumpers, oh by the way, that's Roger Hamilton's old Austin truck parked beside it.
Dave you are right about the timeless quality of Ian and Dave's Pops and your Dad's old one would definitely be a contender in its old guise.
I've just noticed a couple of dubious characters lurking in the background of both of those pics - Colin and Tom Pugh, no doubt looking for ideas for Tom's Pop.

Thanks for finding the photo Phil,Dave the cars were set up for photo as you can see,i knew Dave Harries was taking his pop off the road the next year to be replaced by his new orange one (the imposter,i like that one as well though) so i seized the oppertunity for the shot and yea the three cars would have been great together.

I am 99.9% certain that it IS Grumpys Toy in the pics, the more I look at it the more certain I am.

I wish I could find my pics of it in '91...

Thanks Matt for the compliments on my old timer, its nice to get em know its getting a bit tired, and i have to say i love the attitude your pop shouts

Don't think WFK 773 ever made it to thruxton Pete so i don't know where the pic was taken but there again i was a bit busy there, but you are right i did win some goods there including the sbc thats in the pop i still remember Tony Thaker bringing it up frrom London in the back of a Capri,it had some serious thrashing in the pursuit of prizes, including up on two wheels (the side two!!) and cuts up the sidewalls of the front tyres!!
