Hi there thought this would make a interesting thread,I have just bought off of Flea bay a Top Trumps set of cards which appears to be all 70s British Hot Rods,Model Ts ,Bs ,Plymouth ,Custom Mk1 escorts,a couple of Zephyrs etc,,,,,Good to look back on how things have changed and see what was "in" back then (even before my time...just)
Some interesting rides,I shall see if I can take any pics of the set and put it on here if anyone is interested,Scottie if you read this I may need your help here ,,Cheers Andy

Ive got Fabulous buggies, they were a mail order set only. Every time I look at them Im disappointed at the amount of bikes in there!:o
Hot Rod Top Trumps was mainly Southern Roadsters cars ,I think all photography was by Mike Key so there's some of his local cars in there as well.

Was there any others? Custom Choppers???
Just been checking my sets, the dragster bikes and super dragsters are mostly british.
The Fabulous Buggies and World record Holders were ones that you had to send away for.
My '33 Plymouth reg no. 20 KV was one of the Rods in the Top Trumps pack. It was photographed by Mike Key at, I think the Van Nationals near Buckingham in 1976. I traveled there with Mick Cook ( it was always a fast run with Mick). The memory's working now, it was the first time that I met Bob Holland 1, he was there in his A60 van.
Ive got loads of the sets. Heres some pics from various sets.

I could be wrong but I think that could be John Wright's Jag engined, Devon pick up Comp Altered that started out being street legal!

I remember playing top trumps (hot rods) in my maths lesson at school way back when, & I turned a card & there was my Fordson,"Old Iron" sitting there in all itds glory. Was great for a schoolkid cos I'd bought said Fordson just a few weeks before. 30 years later, I still own it.
*pass* is the Stardust Funny Car, originally brought to the UK by Santa Pod along with Don Schumacher (sp?) and later run by the Stones. Had the roof blown off once on a run like what had happened to Jim Dunns Cuda in the States(Jims one they taped it back on to make another run)

You sure you don't mean "Robert Williams" the famous innovator???:D
Or is it Mrs Doubtfire's rod???
Ah well, as I thought, it doesn't look too close to an original T body style! So would it be more like a "Decoupage" effect, only in it's original form?;)

Mickey Tong was in the South London Custom Club at the same time I was, he used to build some top notch models, they were featured in CC.
He also built a trick painted Beetle ,featured in CC, using all those VW glass bits that used to be advertised in the back .

yes yes ok, i was a bit suspect when i put it on, it was is in fact all home built (including the body) by robin phillips, heres a picture of the chassis at the 73 southern roadsters show in portsmouth & a picture of the whole car at blackbushe in 74.

here it is at the 76 cc show, havent got a full on shot at the mo, in the background of the first pic is mick kemps transit (from the chelmsford club) & in the fore ground on the second pic is warp 8 & the bonnet of the origional bullit mustang, happy hooker is of course in the background of this shot.

Hell that brings back memories! The show was held at USGs Portsmouth where both Tony Puttick and myself worked. Would you believe the first thing that caught my eye was the painted walls in the background, instant flashback to working there  Glorious old art Deco building replaced by some faceless modern crap now :(
Mopar, did you get my PM, top right of page ?

Wow, what a strange coincidence! Last Wednesday at the MSR club night, a friend gave me two pics of the body off this, which he has for sale!!! Anyone interested can get in touch with me & I'll pass it on. Still looks the same but missing the screen & one front pillar, I think there are a couple of other bits with it, it still has the rear lights & obviously the same paint & ribbon graphics.

2/b, the caption reads "Chevrolet Funny Car, the most successful of its type & size"!!!!
In fact several of them are captioned as "Funny Cars", although one looks like a Comp Altered. I'm sure they are typographical errors though, aren't they???:D
As for the "old Packard body" one, well don't let Paul Kennedy see it!!!:D
Makes you wonder who did (or rather, didn't do!) their research?

My guess it was lost in translation - one of the captions mentions "oldtimer" which is German for vintage stuff. I thought I had the Fabulous Buggies set, but as I didn't recognise those cards, I guess I haven't.
Maurice, you missed the details for the Pony Express altered, has to have the most powerful side draught equpped 4 pot in the World, 8.2 litre with 800hp.
