Looks extremely sketchy to me!:eek::eek:

Only asking as my brother is looking at buying a caddy (volkswagen mk1 golf with a pickup bed type) and a few of them he has found have been fitted with these instead of having the axle flipped to lower the rear end. I'm not sure what the setup is on these but surely some lowering blocks and longer u-bolts would do the trick?

I will have a look about to see the setup but either way, the method above looks a bit dodgy to me. Anyone else want to comment on it?

That will put some severe bending forces on the welds to the axle tube as the leverage effect is increased. I wouldn't use them.

CC did one of these many moons ago by flipping the axle which has got to be the safest way & not particularly difficult.

As I thought Gary, just doesn't look "right" to me either.

I'd like to see some sort of triangulation between, say, the centre of the new hub location and that spring mount bracket. A length of tube with the end welded to a flat plate sandwiched under whatever boolts to the pad, t'other end welded to the top of the lowering plate?

Most modern cars aren't on the verge of falling apart, but are many times stronger than they need to be. Look at what hot rodders do to I beam axles: get 'em red hot and stretch the ends 4" or more......

I would have suggested triangulating it as well, but why bother when you can flip the axle. Sounds like a money making scheme by the company that makes the plates

I would only use them if there was some gusseting . I bet you could get hold of the wheel and bend that as it stands. If you flip it over I would use shackles and a baseplate rather than rely on that one nut to hold the axle on the spring :D
