Yes it's been on a few old bangers over the years. It came on the donor car for the Plymouth, a Triumph Herald 12/50. I used the front suspension, seats, wiring loom, steering column etc.

I often wonder what became of mine, I sold it in late 1976 to pay the deposit on a house. It had a real LT1 350 in it that I had mated to a Jag 4 speed with O/D. The home made bell housing (35cwt Transit wheel) would have been a real giveaway but that would be long gone by now.

Thanks, it was a quick little car, it was so light. At high speed I had to reach forward and put my hand flat on the inside of the windscreen, the wind used to make it flex in but in those days what the heck.
Was Boston Strangler at that meet, I feel a memory coming.

The Bowling Green pub in Lichfield is where the monthly Monterey Meet was and still is held. I seem to remember you being there with the Plymouth on more than one occasion, but I may be wrong as it is a long time ago. What I do recall is its attendance being talked about.

The Riddler should get an award (the Riddler perhaps) he could just be the longest owner of a Rod that is used all the time. He is a good example to the rest of us who don't do as much, you know who you are (me included). Terry does all this with one arm, try building a Turbo 350 with one hand, he did. The only problem with him are his ****tails, C16 and Advacaat LOL

Originally built by my friend ,the late 'DR' Bob Dobbs former member of Lone Wolfs Doncaster (do they still excist ?) as a 3 window coupe.Sold and only seen once more at The Nationals at Chelmsford in approx 1998 looking very sorry with all the chrome having started going rusty etc. After it was on Ebay last year it was purchased by someone in Grimsby Lincs who recognised the car and knew who had originally built it.I havent seen it but Kustomnemo off here has.

Steve, there was a blown 4.5 Daimler Plymouth up here in Birminghamin the late 70's. It had been cut into a roadster and was painted black and flamed (not particularly well from memory). It was later bought by Steve Hales (not Plumpcars) who went to town on it, chromed everything in sight, painted it candy red, put a nice interior in it and had it featured in Street Machine I think, bearing the name 'Summer Whine'. When he sold it, he bought Small Fry from Russ Pepper and still owns it to this day.

Sometime around late 60's early 70's a Birmingham area guy named Phil George built a 283 Chevy powered T bucket. After a few soakings he changed the body for a glass '33 Plymouth, pale yellow and deeply chanelled as I remember. Terry Richards reckons he drove to Le Mans in it.

One day, driving a bit quick round a bend on an icy road in Walsall ,he lost it big time and parked it in someones front room.

Sorry I have no pics of this car.

The Red Plymouth in the second pic is Terry Riddle's, he still drives it. The fourth pic is mine but was taken (I'm pretty sure) at the 1976 Van Nationals at Steeple Claydon near Buckingham. The pic was taken by Mike Key for the Top Trumps and I think there was to be a Jig Saw of it. The Yellow Car could be Stuart Story's, he was from the North East, nice guy, a Farmer I think.

I'm not sure when the first '33 Plymouth bodies appeared in the UK but I guess this must be one ot the earliest examples. I don't remember who it actually owned the rod but I'm sure there's an eagle eyed 'Plymouth' fan out there who will recognize it by the distinctive reg number and Daimler 'Hemi' engine.
Picture history;
I took the pictures around 1975/76, the location is either Hayes or Hillingdon West London. Some of you will spot 'Mikeyboy' Mike Halls on the left just about to open the door and on the right Bruce Egleton of Metal flake gold / red 1957 Chevy rag top fame. That's Jerry? kneeling, who owned a lovely white '55 Cadillac Eldorado, the Caddy now resides in Sweden!

Very early 70's , Ray Christopher was very local to me knocking these and C-cabs out back then ....The original bodies were raised in the rear so that a Beetle engine could be an option ...there was a Beetle engined example in H.R. & C. from memory at one time .....

As a footnote ...I am actually looking for a 33 Plymouth body for a Customer .....

Car was built by my brother Dick, it was put together for the 1975 Custom Car Show at Crystal Palace to try and advertise the bodies for Ray ("alright baaaabe") Christopher.

Body was the first out of the mould (blue metalflake) (the buttoned roof insert was done by Steve Blomfield)

The license plate was a dummy for the show but Dick was offered that actual reg number at the show for £300

I remember staying up all night the night before to try and get it to some sort of display order and then when we got there they were not going to let it in as it was unfinished, Chris Boyles and Ray said they would withdraw their entries if it was not allowed so they gave in...(Ray needed the advertising).

*Snippet*
The organisers of the show where short of cars for the balcony and asked if myself, Pete and Ian Penfold and Keith Seume would mind displaying our (very unprepared) cars...thus we spent another long night getting them to look good (ish),
So we had SSR cars all over the place which was a great advert for the club (I still have the original display card somewhere)

That is looking bloody brilliant, compared to how it looked when my mate owned it a couple of years ago. Very interested to see it in the flesh again, once it is all rebuilt. Good luck with the deadline for Billing.

Cheers,

Stu.

thanks stueyt will you be at billing? or any of the oher shows this season? i think there is going to be quite a few people from its past that wants to see it and not just owners also people who new dr bob dobbs who built her. i have changed quite a lot of small engineering bits due to ill fitting or mis fit parts that were used during her build and later modifications. i have also got some nice new mods for the interior aswell, and ive made some rear light clusters that are wild but not giving too much away cos want some bits for people to still be wowed by

Yes...mine is at Buckland Automotive just now.

The team there have noticed some serious issues with the chassis...it will have to be trailered home. The chassis will be replaced when I can find the 'right' builder. Obviously I have asked Adrian for a quote but his shop is very busy.

I, along with my wife, Deb and a mate believe that the chassis can be made safe to use for this season but time will be an issue.

Hi Marcus,

You're doing a great job. Last time i saw it was at the nasc nationals the year after bob sold it .

I volunteered to help bob with the body work & ended up doing 90% of it including filling in the side windows in my workshop. It took weeks & weeks of filling and blocking. I used a high build brush on primer that sunk really bad some time after it was painted ( in my workshop by a guy who lives in Waltham ).

What colour have you painted it ?

As far as taking it back to when it was originally built you've far surpassed that. The 'Dr' in bobs later acquired nickname certainly wasn't 'of engineering' lol.

Take it easy

Jon

Hi john. Thanks for the compliment am trying me best. I have painted it in rousch 3001 so that it matches the red powder coat on the chassis. Its a slightly different shade from when bob had it but i think it should look good now that everything matches. There is stuff i would love to change to make it perfect cos the shell isnt cemetrical but thats what gives it its character.Ive made some changes to the steering to try and give it a better lock and also irradicate some of the bump steer she use to suffer from.Ive had the windows filled back in seeing as some one hacked them out and put perspex in them. I remember coming down to your yard, am sure you had an escort pick up aand i use to druel over your MK1 cortina.
Are you off to billing at the end of the month? Am gonna take the plymouth although the interior might not be finished cos am putting her back to a bench seat. The re-wire is driving me mad but its almost done and hopefully its all down hill from now.

First try to upload a Picture, here goes. Well it seemed to work. The people in the picture are old friends, Mrs RR Roadster and her brother Phil and the girl with her back to the camera is Maria Cooke wife of the late great Mick.

Rog, had a look through my pics, and found an almost identical pic as this from the Nats in Victoria Park(?) Leicester in 1976......over 32 years ago!
