hi
am upgrading from 6 to 12 volts, now have most of the parts except generator, original 6 volt was 35 amp,the new regulator i have is 12volt 35amps, can i use a generator with higher amps as a 35 amp 12 volt dont seem easy to come by,

The dynamo has to be matched to the regulator. Brit stuff uses a Lucas RB 340 or RB108 reg.

Unless you've added loads of extra electrical equipment to your ride, you won't need a 35A 12V dynamo to replace your 35A 6V one. The 35A 6V power output is 210W (35Amp x 6V) even the Lucas C40 (standard 50s/60s dynamo) manages 264W output (22Amp x12V)

The bigger Lucas dynamos are probably not too easy to come by nowadays, don't know about yank ones, but unless an original look is really important I'd go for an alternator instead.
