Funny as I lived in the same area as them for years but never met them, but a few months ago I was in a stainless steel exhaust company getting bits bent for the 34 and Ron Harris was there (altho I didnt know who he was at the time) the guy at the garage introduced us and Ron shook my hand fek me! thought he was gonna pull me arm off lol, he did say what he was up to but for life of me I cant remember?

Dad (Ron senior) still builds 4 pot engines for hot rod racing, H.P.E. (roundy round), Jeff moved to France a couple of years ago but has moved back & now lives near Maidstone. I haven't seen Andy for several years now but I believe he's still in the area.

Yep Andy is still about and racing a very stout 2l pinto powered Mk1 escort, think its running low 11s without gas, also seems to be able to get 18" of air under the front wheel when he launches, and was living in Beddington last time I saw him,
Jeff Runs HPE now as Ron has Semi retired, hes 74 now, and still drag races his 12 sec mk1 escort, Martin and Little Ron have all but fallen off the map, But Andys kids are racing Mk1 & 2 escorts up the pod on a regular basis

They were the days, I remember being at Croydon cruise when the Harris bros were running up & down the duel carrageway with the old bill chasing them in a Mk1 escort panda car, by the time the old bill got one end, the Harris bros were up the other end, we also pushed out the car park barriers, and stopped the traffic for them to do dounuts.
Someone said that Harris snr broad sided his Mk1 into a lamp post on the way home ??

The last time I see them, was at a Redhill car park cruise, and they were still entertaining the crowd !!!

    Excellent bunch of guys !!

That's good to hear, I keep meaning to pop round to see dad. Jeff's daughter & mine (the stunt driver - see seatbelt thread on discussion forum!) were at school together & still keep in touch via facebook (whatever that is!).

Amuses me that Andy can get an Escort to wheelstand, considering the size of him! But their engines are fantastically quick though, ain't they?

    Russ

Don't think mine is an ex Harris car Russ (if you mean me..!!!), as it has 'standard' rear arches, but I DO know it's had an eight in it since the seventies....

    So who knows...????

I do know that someone called Bear (???) on here used to own mine, and it was in Leicester years ago in pale blue/grey (came out of CC classifieds I think, I have the mag..) then went up to Trevor in Cannock, then back here to Leicester, I only know this because the chap that does my MOT's and stuff used to MOT it when it was here the first time 'round and has pics...!!

I have been told by Pixie on here, that it broke a 4 bar mount whilst out on a 'cruise' around Leicester, and he ratchet strapped the axle in place to get it home, I always look at the mounts just to check every week now....!!!

Andy had the old Jago, 302, full fendered, light blue metallic blue 5 window, it can be seen burning out in the Whitgift shopping centre in a CC feature on a couple of their cars.

Nick Kemps Lo Lid Zephyr started out life as "The Entertainer", which was owned by a cousin of the Harris', he's a London cab driver, seen him lurking around Waterloo station a few times.

Yes Guy thats the man, we pulled it from a garage in North London,it had a 289 in it and the headers coming through the inner arches, the same as Harris cars hadi believe, chromed 9" rear and a pair of boxing gloves hanging fom the rear view mirror.
Plate was RLP 928, now on my vette.
That must have been 15-20 years ago and the car had been sitting for years then.
It was maroon when Bear bought it and Grey and Blue when sold on, which matches up.

Hmm, I know that it used to have headers through the inner wings, never really thought about it being an ex Harris car....

Er, did anyone read the latest Custom Car?

Andy Harris bought my old Pop from Terence Bull(?) who I sold it to. He phoned me and asked me about it before buying it, and I pointed out I found it quite comfortable to drive, and climb in and out over the cage (5'-4" 10-stone weakling), but that he might find it more of a challenge.....I don't think he had it for long before selling it to Popinoz!
