    Mikes v8 pop

    Hi,
I thought it was about time that I shared my long term 53 Pop build with you all.

We did have a few breakdowns along the way LOL a coke can did the trick.

Mostly Run to the sun, Billing, and Shakey,

    The strip down begins next,
    Cheers,
    Mike C.

Here we go then the strip down begins

Body frame made, and old frame removed

Wisbech frame with inner framework, gearbox crossmember front suspension crossmember and towers all welded in house. Engine mounts made and welded in house (well in the garage actually)

Body frame in more detail. This worked very well with no distortion to the body.

Jag axle has been shortened and installed to check fit and ride height

That's it for the jag axle for now, next I moved to the front suspension,
    Stay tuned,
    Cheers,
    Mike C.

It was now time to fit my Wisbech front suspension, I received it as one piece tacked together, then I installed it and welded it in place after many measurement checks LOL

Finally weded in place with the steering cut outs completed

A shot outside in the sun this doesn't happen often,

That's the front suspension sorted, more to follow soon,
Got to get ready to go to the swap meet now,
    Cheers,
    Mike C.

    Hi Lee,
It did take me while longer than I thought, but seeing yours and all the other build threads on here that keep me going it was a no brainer really, and had to be done.

Thanks for the kind words, the vids are of poor quality unfortunately, they where good in my camera LOL, so yes I would agree that the pics are better for showing the details, not sure about the skill part though !!!!!

    More to follow soon,
    Cheers,

    Hi,

The steering shaft was next on the list, a double u/j at the column end sorted an angle problem, and a single at the rack end made the connection complete.

In effect I now had three u/j joints, this meant that the shaft would not turn as the u/j's where working against each other, the answer was a shaft steady. All is good now.

Mount made and 8 mm nutserts installed to hold it.

Excess threads removed, apart from paint it's good to go.

    More to come soon,
    Cheers,
    Mike C.

    Hi Roy,
Thanks for the kind words, much appreceated for sure.
I'm using XJ6 recon callipers and hand brake assys on the rear with standard non vented discs. Got them from Ward Engineering many moons ago, he still does them, just got some bits coming for the axle now.
Not sure about the cosworth ones perhaps someone on the tech could help, good luck.
The standard Jag ones are pretty powerfull though.
    Cheers,
    Mike C.

    Hi,

I returned to the Jag axle as I had a problem with the mounting plate, I wanted to use the standard Jag bolts and the plate was drilled slightly off, a normal bolt is at the front of the pic, so Wisbech made another, now all is good.

As the axle is chromed I figured that the wishbones would wear the chrome off at the thrust washers so I got my buddy to make up some 0.100" Delrin (like p.t.f.e) washers to stop the chrome coming off, should work good I reckon.

Lower tie strap made on CNC on overtime LOL those where the days.

Axle all in, no diff internals totally striped out, build up to come soon. Top shock mounts more overtime and CNC and Capstan Lathe work. Wish I still worked there.

That's all for the axle for now. More to follow soon,
    Cheers,
    Mike C.
