Hi Paul,
Great to see another build thread, will follow along with much interest. good luck with it,
Cheers,
Mike C.
After a weekend of rest, beer and Valentine it was back on the Pop today. Got on well. Ihave had the engine in and out several times checking and cutting for clearance until I was happy with how it sat and the gearbox output shaft alignment. Here's the carved up chassis I ended up with.
And where the gearbox output shaft and damper go
As you can see there is a large chunk of chassis (and strength) missing as a result of said hacking. I had a pair of channels folded up by a local fabrication company (for the princely sum of £20, including some 2mm offcuts) and trimmed them to fit. They go in so.
This means I finally got to fire up the Mig.
Tomorrow I'll start on the fill in bits for the holes I carved and start on the welding proper.

excellent work paul.
I've had another couple of good days, just finishing off the chassis mods in the engine area. I got the two strengthening channels fully welded in (9ft of weld in total) and the chassis is now very solid. Here's how it looks.
And from the other side.
The gearbox crossmember is now just a stiffening "bridge" between the two rails. The end result is somewhat over engineered but given it's daily status and who uses it, it's no bad thing.
Tomorrow I shall put the engine back in situ and start on the mounts for it. Also the bulkhead can be started.

Paul that looks like it may of been a sh1t job looks much better.
Any advice or help given is actually based on having done the job, not read about doing it or Googling it.

I got stuck into the engine mounts today. I had already bought some Landrover mounts, nice and simple. I would normally use the mounts that go with the engine but the Granada mounts are huge! The Granada gearbox mount will not fit inthe chassis so I shall use a Herald/Spitefire g/box mount.
Here's what I whittled out of some plate.
Mounted them onto some simple box mounts on the chassis (not welded yet) which will get a bit of tidying up tomorrow. Then took the engine out yet again to make sure it will come out (important that!) Slid out a treat.

There will be more! I am finished tonight for two weeks hols so guess what I'll be doing.
Bulkhead is about half finished, collecting a sheet of 18g cold rolled tomorrow for the rest of it and the gearbox tunnel. Also have to get the gearbox mount, then the engine can come out (again!) and be put to one side for now.

I've been busy since my last post. Collected a 2m x 1m sheet of 18g C.R. steel and got stuck into the bulkhead, toe boards and gearbox tunnel. I'm fairly pleased with them. They are made to be practical (the tunnel bolts in) and also retain as much footroom as possible. I seem to have suceeded as there is more room now There's a couple of little corners to fill and one section to dress to shape then welding, lots of it
Here's some piccys. I'll post some from the engine side when I take it back out.

Very nice work
This morning I got the tunnel welded up and the welds all buffed up. I'm fairly pleased with the result. There is still some cleaning up to do when I take it out. The flash has made it look like it has been attacked by a blind man with a grinder!
Here's a shot from the engine side, still some cleaning up to do. The box like part above the steering column bush is where the manifold sits. Note that the steering column mount is made mostly of P38 Some work needed there.
That's it until Monday, weekends are me and wifey time.
