next up we made infills where the floor had been cut away from the b post each side to try and make the doors fit. this was obviously due to the body being removed unbraced which we found out when we had to take 1/8" off of the back of both doors previously then we did some plating that wasn't part of the job but we couldn't leave as it was. under the b posts (a posts need the same) from the chassis out to the sills was a hocked about mess. we trimmed out as much as possible then made a 'skin' to cover it all up. no extra cost to frank, we just couldn't leave it like it
oh, and scott got the steering wheel made too. 12" diameter and 12" dish, just what the customer wanted and very 70's just like popcorn the 1st.
tonight we made the 'a' post bottom infills so that's all the bottom tidied up now. then we cleaned the surface rust off the roof panel edge so it could be finish welded. the back edge dipped in a bit so we got the portapower out and squared it up before welding. lastly we fitted the astra van inner crossmembers back into the roof. they needed a tweek to match the curve of the roof and the front one had to have 4" cut out of the middle as it was too wide. the roof skin is much stiffer now with no 'bean canning'

first job tonight was to have a grind up and prime the roof which looks much better now . then we dug out the bootlid that's worse than we remembered as always . once we'd heated the hinges to free them off we had to drill the hinge holes out in the new valance so we could get the boot bolted in place. we then cut the bottom 4" off of the skin and also cut out the inner bottom 4" too . we made a new inner and welded that in followed by an outer section too. lastly we started to grind the edges of the boot either side as they pretty much touched all the way up both sides. it'll look fine but what a lot of work for such a small panel
excellent progress Neil.
Pop bootlids are a pain! Sandra's has had 3mm rod welded around the opening to make it fit!
Layabout.
we had a good night tonight, we finished 'edgeing' the bootlid and primed it then moved on to the exhaust. we added ends to the headers to bring us down by the gearbox pan, then ran both sides back as far as over the axle. it worked out to be one of those that sits nice and symetrical before you say in the last pic looks as if it's close to the axle, that's because we removed the boards holding it all up level so it's hanging full weight on the headers
first job tonight was to add mounts to the middle sections we made yesterday then remove and fully weld them and the headers. with that lot refitted we moved to the silencer/tailpipes. we welded a sleeve into each middle pipe that the boxes will clamp to then a short section of pipe to the end of each box with a stainless tailpipe on. the boxes start close to the floor and slope down as they go back so they are tucked up tight out of sight. for the rear mount we made a siamesed set of brackets with one mount so once assembled the tailpipes are bolted together.
