Firestones! (and other cool 60’s stuff)

trawling through the thread on H.A.M.B. there are a few photos of hot rods from the early-mid 60's (?) with Firestone tyres as below. I've always liked them and thought they look very hot roddy. I'm sure it won't happen but it would be great if someone reproduced these. If you have any photos of similarly attired rods post them up!

Those tyres are an icon of `60s rodding styling!.
Being the widest tyres available at the time, those Firestone (and Goodyear) F1 and Indy tyres were fairly popular back then, they also caught on with the Dune Buggy guys. Unfortunately, being for racing, the tyres (sidewalls) were fairly stiff which gave a hard, spine jarring ride on the street and a sniff of water under them easily had the car sideways. We used them on our Buggies until the authorities realized they had "For racing use only" moulded on the sidewall; I guess the 5" of tread sticking out from under the bodywork didn`t help either! .
"The older i get, the faster i was".

hello Keith, how you doing? Thanks that's very cool, looks like they are still for racing use only. They should do some street rated versions, would be great to see some rods built like those above (but maybe with the wheels tucked in)

Its an old race car being restored, I wouldn't say without asking first as some don't like their cars plastered across internet

Hi Dave thanks for these, they are great. I'm thinking I need a pair of those on the back of my car, with maybe an inch or two of tyre sticking out beyond the fenders and a pair of 155x15 Pirelli Cinturato's on the front!
