    my 38 ford std coupe

just arrived is my latest ride which i aim to make an old time period hot rod. Its got a reverse eye front spring & 39 juice brakes, later 1946 59ab 3.9 litre flathead with straight thro pipes. Been converted to 12v alternator & has drake telescopic shocks all round. Other than that everything is 80 years old even the yellowing windows. Plans to check it over, improve on some of the crap usa mods, bit of pin striping & hop it up for the hot rod drags & pendine next year.
    Pictures to follow

just had the rear spring off to give it some much needed lubrication & have replaced the rear shackles & bushes that were shot! now I have to make a spring spreader to put it back!

That's nice. I think I prefer that grille to the Deluxe one.

    progress at last

back lubricated spring & new shackles now on thanks to the home made spreader.
rear drake shocks now work & don't bind on the cross member after a bit of neat clearancing (the usa work was crude).
rims now blasted & powdercoated thanks to NCC at manor farm ready for there new firestones.
also collected some replacement toughened glass from kings lynn to replace the cracked & yellowed laminated ones,
last job on the back is to weld on the handbrake tube that someone had tried to do that looked like chicken ****!

radiator away for a 4 row core with P & M radiators Norwich to help cool that flathead. should be picking up a Stromberg electronic ignition, leads & coil from o`neil at Leicester as its a pain to get to the original right down the front of the engine + some period green paint to tidy up the flathead. Jim at Royal Kustoms has supplied a carb rebuild kit so that's to do.
new fuel line run in copper & clipped back properly to replace the rusty & perished original system so that's another ticked off!

The cause of overheating in them is normally caused by the block being full of crap - wire/sand and rust. Once the blocks are cleaned out you normally don't have any more issues with cooling. When I rebuilt my flattie the back 2 cylinders were completely encased in sand and wire, there was absolutely no way for water to cool them but it must have been like that since day 1 when it left the factory.
