    Fitting type 9 to xflow

    When fitting a type 9 5 speed to a 1.6 xflow.
I've been told I need a clutch plate from a 1.6 sierra as this is 190mm and 23 spline but the original xflow clutch is also 190mm and 23 spline.
So my question is can I just use the standard xflow clutch and cover with a type 9 release bearing or do I need to buy the sierra clutch?

I've got a type 9 on my crossflow. I used the pinto type clutch assembly off the 1.6 pinto and 5 speed. Not certain about crossflow, just checked a workshop manual, seems to show 190mm for the plate. The crossflow box should , I think, have 20 splines not 23. So same or very similar diameter plate but different splines.

Ah I forgot to count the splines.
Did you use a complete clutch kit from the 1.6 pinto? That would be an easy way to do it. Clutch plate, cover and bearing from the same kit

Did this some years ago. Recall a particular clutch was required - readily available. We used a Mondeo hydraulic throwout bearing utilising a kit (comprising a machined chunk of ali!) which worked great, pedal was very light and easy (it was a 100e which already had a hydraulic clutch setup, so made sense). Info came from Fast Ford type resources.

Bumper sticker - This is an historic vehicle and only has three speeds....... if you don't like this one you sure as hell won't like the others.

Did this on our x flow powered 300e,I had all the right parts but on assembly try out on the floor,I found the thrust bearing housing was about 5mm too long and was pushing the fingers of the pressure plate.
I ground some clearance off it and it was ok,not sure why it was that way,I know there can be a difference on V6 type 9,where the input shaft is a different length, but this was the thrust housing that is bolted to the g/box causing the problem.
Just saying watch out for that

Weird this should come up now as I was involved with fitting aType 9 to a pre Xflow yesterday ...and it really didn't want to play ball . Someone elses home brew of parts . First motion shaft was bottoming in crank and seizing engine even with dirt plate fitted .

Thanks Ian, found out about that while searching the 'net . Apparently it sticks out past the bellhousing , hopefully I'll check it out over the next couple of days .
