Thumbs up Rover sd1 v8 twin su carbs without choke cable?

Hi folks, anybody managed to run a rover v8 with twin su,s without using a choke cable?
Can I just let the engine run longer and rev it on and off before I start a journey? Thanks.

Later cars had an FASD auto choke. It started the car OK but needed some help on the throttle pedal to give it a good fast idle for a few minutes. Then they were OK if working correctly.

Yes, thinking about it, a choke cable seems the best way to go.

in my experience with su carbs they like a lot of choke and not a lot of throttle from cold so i'd just fit a cable.

Consistently revving a cold (just started) engine can cause damage, they need to be warmed up at idle, particularly if modified!. Fit a choke cable to make life easier for you and your motor!...
