Standard set up Jamie whether using their tubular or standard Cortina arms. You should be able to just reshim yours , that's all that happens with the aftermarket stuff . Play in the end knuckles is also adjustable.

Interesting! Not the same but arguably close enough, Ali's '37 (all '34 Corner stuff with the tubular front end) I think had an Escort derived rack. I had to replace it as it got bent when the rack caught the car as it slipped off a trolley jack - yikes. If i recall rightly it required about an inch removing from the main section of the rack which was preformed by a local engineering place - they recut the outer thread and the internal pocket. I think i still have the removed piece somewhere! I can't imagine the Escort being wider or the '37 being narrower either, but hey??? Sorry if this confuses the issue!

Hi Jamie, How ya doing, I do remember tall Paul with the green 34 had to narrow his rack, was going to take a bit off one track rod only (spurious at best) why does it need replacing? as kapri says they can be rebuilt. Keep me posted and I'll do some research ............cheers Wick

Mine were on A's so should arguable been narrower than a 34 but replaced both with standard Cortina racks ? Possibly a narrower to special order ? Simplest way is to measure inner knuckle to knuckle and get some comparisons?

EDIT . It's posible that an Escort rack may have been used in some applications to make it easier to fit a particular engine ie length and position of steering output shaft ie Escort rack narrowd to Cortina width ??

Photo of output shaft and any rack part numbers ?

My 32 Vicky uses Cortina front suspension but with a Mk1 Escort rack. Discovered this after I bought new (wrong) mounting rubbers. Check on e-bay for the mounting rubbers that will tell you which rack you've got.

Thanks guys, was going for new as Old Warden is getting closer, have a original 34 Corner brochure which states that thier crossmember is 3" narrower than stock which must mean the rack must be 3" narrower, the only way to do it is to duplicate the swivel assy by machining it 3" in and narrowing the outer casing, or rebuilding the original, which may be the way to go, any clues who sells the rebuild kits?

Hi, I called at Kiley Clinten Engineering in Birmingham, they straightened the rack and supplied all the parts I needed to rebuild. Malc
