    Cortina rear steer?

    Hi all.
I am looking to rear steer a Cortina 3/4/5 front suspension.
Can anyone recommend a suitable steering rack that allows me to retain RHD?
MK3/4 escort has been suggested...anyone know if the knuckle joints are the same distance apart?
And i know i will need to deal with the ackerman angle...
    Thanks.
    Mark

Most fwd things are rear steer with the rack mounted to the bulkhead, so that could narrow the search down. Always thought the short rack with long arms could be a good way to go and doesn't require a perfect width rack.

What's wrong with a front rack anyway? I hope any answer doesn't involve both aesthetics and fenderless!

And don't forget the Ackermann stuff!!

hi mark, can't you find a lhd cortina rack? mount it behind the xmember flipped over so the column bit is on the right. don't forget to heat and bend the steering arms in a bit when you swap the spindles side to side or you may get some ackerman/bump steer issues. you'll need to trim a bit off the threads on the rack to shorten it to suit the smaller gap between the arms.

    Thanks chaps.
The idea of moving the rack is to allow the grill shell to fit properly.
LHD rack is an option. But altho not looked suspect it may be a bit costly. I am trying to put something together using stuff i have saved in the shed...

Depends on what you have stored in your shed!

There might be scope for staying as you are but just moving the rack rearwards enough to get what you need. In plan view there's nothing wrong with the arms off the rack pointing slightly forwards (or rearwards!) as long as it's not excessive. Ideally you'd want it straight but plenty aren't and work fine. Might be as simple therefore as shortening the rack mounts coming off the crossmember?

    got pix?
