    T bucket soft top

I'm looking for info on how to make a soft top for my T bucket, i cant seem to find very much how to info on the usual places... think the late Steve Lang had something in the archives when he made the top for the model A roadster pickup but its not all there now... can anyone share anything to guide me in the right direction

    thanks in advance

There's a previous thread on this to which I posted about the one I did for my T-bucket.

TBH I can't remember now, but I did post lots of pics showing the frame I made from a Speedway kit as well as the finished item. It was a while ago now like 10 or more years(!) but I think it would have been around £1500, the material used was BMW mohair so not cheap. I didn't use much of the Speedway frame as that is a pretty standard pram hood style & I wanted this swoopy Fad look, plus it had to be easy to break down into small sections so it could be stowed away in a matching material bag on the back of the car! A lot of the time, even in wet or cold weather, I had to leave the sidecreens unzipped as it would get too hot & steamy inside (!) Also I made it so that when it was removed, there were no obvious signs of a top still attached to the body apart from the snap studs around the back of the body. It's still on the car to this day & still looks as good, even after passing through a few hands since I sold it.

I made one for my RPU, using 1” flat bar. It didn’t fold, couldn’t work out how to do that, but it was removable.

A local upholstery place made the cover, cost about £100. It wasn’t exactly show quality, but it looked good, and no, it wasn’t in the U.K.

Polygamy is having more wives than you really need.
Monogamy is essentially much the same thing.

Here's mine folded up & stowed away in it's "Tee Bag" as we dubbed (stitched into the bag!).

Top down in bag from rear.jpg

We tried out a few designs for the back window!

Before settling on this, basically the bottom half of a Maltese Cross (how do you make a maltese....? well you know the rest!). This is what it looks like from the inside...however...

    Interior view of rear window.jpg

...from the back it looked more like Mickey Mouse, at least to some people!!! Incidentally the bag was made large enough to carry other stuff as well which is why it looks half full here.

Powdercoat, drove all the way up to Suffolk to get it done at a specialist (at the time) who mainly did bikes & scooters. Now you can find them almost anywhere & the finish is a lot better too. If I'd spent a lot of time grinding smooth the casing, it would have come out like the back plates, as here.
