Cool NSRA Spring Cruise 2020 - North West region - North Wales 100 mile tour - 5 April

North West region – North Wales 100 mile tour
    3 hours driving time – Sunday 5 April – Depart 10.30 (tbc)

Starting near Wrexham and finishing 14 miles from start. The drive follows almost entirely scenic routes along good country roads. Only a short, quiet stretch of single lane to contend with, so nothing overly challenging to either car or driver but plenty to take in!

Fuel and food facilities at start. Lunch stop. Café facilities at end (closes 3.30pm) Rivers, lakes, moorland, valleys, hills and mountain vistas and some fine driving in between. Oh, and some sheep. And plenty of toilet facilities (always a relief to know!).

Where’s Wrexham? Liverpool 40 miles, Manchester 60 miles, Preston 78 miles, Stafford 50 miles, Birmingham 70 miles, so fairly ‘handy’ for lots of people!

The route, whilst quite long, doesn’t venture into the depths Snowdonia National Park which can feel rather bleak and remote. In fact we’ll never be much more than about 25 miles from Wrexham and at all times never far from civilisation (but it doesn’t feel like that!). Phone signals might be touch and go at times however, but we are hoping to have a ‘Tail End Charlie’ organised and possibly repair facilities about half way along the route, on the basis that if we have them we won’t need them!

There is plentiful parking at each location but this is not reserved for our exclusive use, so whilst numbers are not restricted it would be good if you could indicate your interest or commitment as early as possible and who knows we might be able to make further arrangements.

Next steps? Let us know if you’re interested (or more) and do please spread the word. Put a note on this thread and PM me with your contact details please through here. There is to be a dedicated email address through the NSRA also, but that’s not sorted yet.

It’s all about the drive! See you out on the road!

    Some finer details

Start – BP fuel with M&S shop and Wild Bean café takeaway. Also ‘greasy spoon’ café (former Little Chef?) with typical, inexpensive menu.

Lunch stop – Country estate Farm Shop and cafe with heated outdoor dining areas. Organic own produce with varied menu (eg organic burger / fries / drink meal deal about £8, salad boxes from £4, kids meals £5). Drive through coffee / sandwiches facility. Or bring your own picnic?

End – mountain top café – typical facilities – popular with bikers and walkers. Closes at 3.30 and food stops at 3.00.

We have an optional hotel arrangement at the cruise start location for those that might require it. There is a pub / restaurant at the location too. A group hotel registration in place on a first come first served basis and this stands until 10 March beyond which any unsold rooms will be released. Double rooms and twin rooms with breakfast included are £90 - £117. There are family rooms also. To reserve a room you must commit to the cruise upon which the booking information will be provided so you can make your own reservation under the group arrangement. Please note the hotel is totally optional and it is not necessary to stay for the evening in order to participate in the 2020 NSRA Spring Cruise.

We have 3 cars confirmed and 2 probables, so we're off! Will have to admit to being rather underwhelmed by the resonse thus far, but it is the depths of winter and the new season sap hasn't started to rise yet!

If ever there was a time to be getting out there and burning up some gas it's now! Why? With new fossil fueled cars being outlawed by 2035, now aspirationally reduced to 2032, what do you think is going to happen? Car makers are all going all electric. The ass will drop out of the market for petrol vehicles. Petrol consumption will begin to rapidly fall away, well before 2032, petrol stations will scale back on selling petrol (oxymoron!), petrol prices will rise, petrol users will be demonised by Greta and her buddies.** Things will be very different in 10 years time, that's not many summers away! If that's not a good enough reason to get out there then I don't know what is!

So get counting your summers and planning to get out there. The spring cruise sounds like a good start!

** of course we can always claim it'll never happen and put forward all kinds of sensible arguments against, where's the electricity going to come from, the electricity distribution network isn't up to it, etc etc but that's irrelevant. The political will is there and the (not so?) subtly educated youth will be taking further control of the agenda whether we like it or not.
