Do you not find the Mk 1 mini rack TOO direct John. I swapped out a mates Mk1 ( 10" wheels) for a later Mk 2 rack (13" rims ) and it was a much more pleasant drive going from 2:1 ratio to 2.5:1.

He was telling me that his kept wanting to step out in bends .When I drove it felt like a quick rack and rather than stepping out he was inputting the same amount of effort as on his daily and so 'over' steering . Length of steering spindle arms would also affect the ratio so probably yours are longer as that would slow it down.

When I fitted the new IFS to mine, I bought a NOS item from over here that was a Flaming River Omni manual rack. It was just too narrow to get the correct geometry but I bought their track rod extension kit which put the TREs in the correct place for eliminating bump steer. If any of that helps? If you want to widen the body of a rack then the Avenger one was the ticket to do that with, had one done on my Mk1 Consul years ago, but it's a job for an expert!

No reason why you can't extend or shorten the arms, just so long as the fulcrum points are in the right place, luckily mine were as you can see to the left in this pic, directly intersecting the line between the upper & lower inner fulcrum points (we actually built the suspension around it, but don't tell anyone!)

Best get a new belt Mo.

Bumper sticker - This is an historic vehicle and only has three speeds....... if you don't like this one you sure as hell won't like the others.
